Charmin Records announce their 5th release, a split EP coming from label boss Florist and close friend/collaborator Tilman. From their base in East Germany, Charmin have been slowly but surely putting together an impressive catalogue of releases and this next offering keeps up this trend with aplomb. The EP shows that, while remaining deeply rooted in house, Charmin can bring many different colours and sounds to the table.
We kick off with Tilman, who steps up to the plate with two cuts of excellent deepness. The A Side opens with “Horizon”, which all hinges on lush piano stabs and a deep, deep 808 kick drum. Next up “Never Go Back” which is a brooding, heads down number. The sultry chords are wonderfully understated, brimming with energy. Over on the flipside, Florist’s “That Morning”, which focuses on solid house percussion weaved together with silky Rhodes chords. Finally we round things off with “Acid8”, this bubbly number doesn’t rely too heavily on tired tropes, but just builds up energy with the hypnotic acid line, playing with the swing of the rhythm track to break up the formula nicely.
